Q) How does laser cutting work?
A) A high power CO2 laser beam is directed via a series of fixed and moving mirrors to the cutting head. Here, the beam is focused to a pinpoint and is projected through a small nozzle. A gas jet of air, oxygen or nitrogen is also passed through the nozzle. The material being cut is vaporised by the intense energy of the beam and ejected by the gas jet. The cutting head travels over the material by computer control, and a very thin, neat cut is produced.

Q) Why choose laser cutting?
A) Laser cutting produces square, clean, burr free edges. Flat sheet, formed or 3D parts, pipe, tube and RHS are all easily processed by laser. It is fast, quiet, efficient and suits a wide variety of material types. Its thin cut creates very accurate results with minimal waste between parts. The energy is very concentrated, so there is minimal heat input to the surrounding material.

Q) What are your capacities and accuracies?
A) Flat sheet components:
Maximum sheet size - 3000mm x 1500mm
Maximum sheet weight - 890kg
Typical machining tolerance - +/- 0.1mm
Repetition precision - +/- 0.05mm

Formed or 3D components:
Maximum part depth - 250mm (3 axis cutting only)

Tube or pipe components (rotary):
Pipe diameter capacity - 15mm to 315mm
Maximum RHS capacity - 200x200
Maximum "feed through" diameter - 155mm
Maximum processing length - 3000mm
Rotary spindle tolerance - +/- 0.03deg

Q) Who supplies the materials?
A) We have several material suppliers who all deliver quality product at competitive rates. We continuously "shop around" to obtain the best prices, ensuring, of course, the material is of prime quality. Alternatively, you can supply your own material.

Q) What information do you need?
A) We can do quotes and program parts from samples, sketches and dimensioned drawings. If at all possible however, a DXF or DWG cad file is the best method. They can be supplied on floppy, zip disk, CD or emailed.

Q) How much will it cost?
A) The material type, size of the part and quantity ordered, determines pricing. Requests for quotes can be emailed, faxed or sent by post.

Q) How long will it take?
A) Depending on current workload and material availability, our typical turn-around time is usually within one week from receipt of order.

Q) What other services can you provide?
A)
  • Our specialised development software can produce flat sheet layouts for a variety of 3D sheet metal products, including augers, branches, breeches, cones, cylinders, elbows and transitions.
  • Our rotary axis software can enable the cutting of mitres, junctions and branches in pipe and RHS.
  • We have over 1600 font types available, which can be used to produce letters, numerals and stencils.
  • Cross hairs, fold lines and part numbers can be etched into components during the cutting process.
  • Using our current customer network, we can arrange a variety of sub processes, ranging from folding and welding, to polishing and powder coating.
  • Delivery of finished goods can also be arranged if required

Q) Who else uses laser cutting?
A) Numerous companies are currently using Arrow Laser's services. They include automotive parts suppliers, sign manufacturers, general engineers, shopfitters, conveyor manufacturers, boat builders, plastic product fabricators and crane manufacturers.
